Just a little background on my movie taste.  I love all the Kill Bill movies, I love Death Proof, so you can say I am pretty much a fan of Quentin Tarantino’s (QT) movies.

My one line synopsis:  Inglourious Basterds is about a group of Jewish-American soldiers brutally killing Nazis to spread fear among them.

Now for the movie review, keeping in mind that this is a QT film:

  • over the top brutality  – checked!
  • ingenious humor subtly placed in – checked!
  • QT’s classic style of old-school drama  – checked!

So if you already hate all the other QT films, this one is not going to change your mind.  However if you are a fan of his, then this movie is a joy ride.

Expect lots of brutal bloody scenes

I love how tension was created in this movie.  Inglorious Basterds consist of heavy and long dialogue scenes.  I usually hate films where people just talk back and forth because 90% of the time, they are boring… but in this movie, they are exciting and suspenseful.  You never know where the conversation is going to lead, whether it’s going to burst out in violence or if someone is going to be out-smarted… it keeps you guessing.

The acting is spot on!  Everyone from the major to the minor characters are very believable.  Just watching the actors perform their job is worth the price of admission for this film.  It also helps that the script gives each character a unique quality that makes them intriguing.

Christoph Waltz as Col. Hans Landa: Acting at its finest.

The attention to details is expected since this is a QT film.  I love the how they use German and French when the dialogue calls for it, and in this film, it’s used A LOT!  A warning for the viewers who hate sub-titles, you will be required to read it for about half the film (unless you know German and French).

A nice surprise is that if you look beyond the surface, there’s a certain type of satire the movie is portraying.  Some of the scenes can be very controversial and can raise questions about the different opinions/view people have about the holocaust (created a nice debate among my friends when we were leaving the theater).

“Listen up soldiers!”

Now for the bad points… I am sure there are some but since I was having such a blast enjoying the film, I must of missed them all.

Bottom line, if you are a QT fan, you must watch this film!

If you are not a QT fan but like to watch interesting/fresh movies, go watch this film.

If you absolutely hate QT, then avoid at all cost.

  1. The movie was excellent and created a lot of discussion afterwards. I think it is a controversial piece of artwork!

  2. But you only found it “Meh”… that was the response you gave me when I asked you crazyChiquita! hahaha!

  3. I saw QT on Conan last night. It was funny, apparently he got Brad Pitt drunk inorder to have him be in the movie!
